Mode Of Action

Aldosterone antagonist

Drug Indication Essential hypertension; primary hyperaldosteronism (diagnosis and maintenance); adjunct therapy in oedema associated with CHF; nephrotic syndrome; hepatic cirrhosis; and treatment of hypokaleamia. Unlabeled use: hirsutism; premenstrual syndrome; short-term treatment of acne vulgaris; precocious puberty.
Precautions Pregnancy; porphyria.
Contra-Indications Allergy to spironolactone; hyperkaleamia; lactation; hepatic or / and renal impairment; addisons disease.
Side Effects Dizziness; headache; drowsiness; ataxia; fatigue; confusion; dry mouth; diarrhoea; thirst; hyperkaleamia; hyponatremia; gynaecomastia; deepening of voice; impotence; irregular menses; post menopausal bleeding; amenorrhea.
